diVa® vs. ThermiVa®: Which vaginal treatment is right for you?

Your vaginal health concerns are as individual as you are. So how can you know which treatment option is best for you? Women experiencing vaginal health issues may be reluctant to discuss them with their doctor. They may feel that their issues are “normal” and must be endured. Or they may fear that the only treatment options are surgery or coping with side effects from hormone treatments.

diVa® and ThermiVa® are two popular options for treating vaginal symptoms.

New applications of trusted technology now offer non-hormonal, non-surgical, in-office options that treat common vaginal issues. With all the available choices, seeking help may seem confusing, but it does not have to be.

At Belladerm, we trust and recommend diVa®, which uses Sciton’s specialized JOULE laser technology. diVa® uses two types of laser therapy in a single treatment for optimal gynecological and genitourinary/urology health.

Vaginal symptoms

Women experiencing vaginal health issues should talk to their provider about the range of non-surgical vaginal treatments now available. Vaginal symptoms may be the result of physical trauma or hormonal changes, such as low estrogen. Vaginal issues that are often encountered are:

  • Vaginal atrophy
  • Vaginal laxity
  • Thinning vaginal walls
  • Lack of vaginal lubrication
  • Painful intercourse
  • Mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence

Vaginal health issues can disrupt daily life and can impact intimate relationships. Women may have a decreased libido, lack of arousal and a reduction in sexual satisfaction.

How do treatment technologies differ?

diVa® uses a customizable, dual-laser system to improve several issues with a single treatment. An ablative laser resurfaces the lining of the vaginal canal. The second, non-ablative laser stimulates collagen growth in the deeper tissues and structures of the vagina to build support. Automated delivery through a single-use quartz dilator ensures consistent, even treatment for the full length of the vaginal canal. Both lasers work in a single, non-surgical treatment for comfortable but remarkable results.

ThermiVa® uses non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) to heat the tissues of the lining and walls of the vagina. The RF energy is delivered through a small wand that is maneuvered over the vagina and vulva by hand. Treatment requires repetitive motions and friction on the treated tissues. The RF wand is not automated and is manually positioned and calibrated by the provider.

What can patients expect during treatment?

ThermiVa® requires manual, repetitive hand piece movement over the labial and vaginal anatomy, as well as inside the vagina.

diVa® has a stationary hand piece, with a 360-degree laser, to cover all areas of the vaginal canal without irritating friction on vaginal tissues. Most patients report feeling pressure during treatment but little to no pain or discomfort.

What are the side effects for each treatment?

Expected procedure side effects may include transient pain in procedure area, erythema and edema.

After diVa® treatment, patients can immediately return to their daily lives. Patients should not have intercourse for 48 hours, and side effects may include mild cramping and spotting.

What is the difference in the issues they treat?

ThermiVa® stimulates collagen growth in the vulvar[SEM(1]  and vaginal tissues using heated radiofrequency energy.

In a single treatment, diVa’s dual-laser system renews the vaginal lining and rebuilds the vaginal structure. diVa’s thoughtful, safe, automated design is specialized for internal vaginal treatments. diVaTyte® is a complementary treatment specially designed for tightening skin and rebuilding tissues in the vulva.

Which treatment offers more thorough results?

Patients often report quicker and more efficient results with diVa®. Most report an improvement in vaginal laxity and stress urinary incontinence following the first treatment. diVa® treatments can be repeated until desired results are achieved, or to maintain desired results.

What is ThermiVa®?

With ThermiVa®, tissues are heated using radiofrequency energy to stimulate and rebuild your body's collagen. At the tip of the hand piece,  a small metal square heats tissues through the emission of radiofrequency energy.

What is diVa®?

diVa® can help improve a wide range of vaginal and urinary symptoms, such as vaginal dryness, laxity and atrophy by treating both the lining of the vaginal canal and the deeper tissues that support the vagina. These conditions can lead to vaginal discomfort and painful intercourse. diVa’s dual laser technology addresses several types of symptoms with a singular, easy treatment.

diVa® is non-hormonal, non-surgical and can be performed in just a few minutes in our office.

No anesthetic or hospitalization is required. Studies show that one to three procedures spaced every four to six weeks achieves optimal results.

It is the only treatment that includes high precision automation technology to ensure customized, complete and optimal outcomes for every patient. Because diVa® is non-surgical, treatment can be repeated to improve or maintain results.

If you have been thinking about getting treatment for your vaginal health issues but are confused about your options, call Belladerm. We will schedule a consultation, talk to you about the benefits of diVa® and help you decide on the right vaginal treatment for you.
