Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Is It Permanent?

Laser hair removal is different for everyone. We can’t promise complete hair removal, but most of our clients experience 50-90% hair reduction. Maintenance sessions may be necessary in some cases, and at Belladerm, we stand behind our work. We offer a 50% discount on up to two maintenance treatments per area, per year.

Does It Work for All Hair and Skin Types?

Laser hair removal works better for darker hair. The LightSheer™ laser, which is considered the gold standard in laser hair removal, does work for light, gray, and red hair, but it may take more sessions to achieve the best results. For darker skin types, test areas need to be done to see the skin’s reaction to the laser. Since the laser is attracted to melanin, which is higher in darker skinned people, it is more difficult to target the melanin in the hair shaft. Therefore, some pre-treatment with a skin lightener might be necessary for darker skin.

Is There Any Pre-treatment?

You cannot pluck, wax, use a depilatory, or have electrolysis in the areas you want to treat for six weeks prior to laser hair removal. Do not tan the areas for four weeks prior to treatment. Avoid using self-tanning products for two weeks prior to treatment. The area to be treated should be shaved before treatment.

What Post-treatment Is Necessary?

You will need to wear sunscreen regularly during your laser treatment package and for six weeks after completing your packages. Avoid irritants for seven days after treatment.

Does It Hurt?

The level of discomfort depends on the density of hair. For most people, it feels like a rubber band snap. Topical anesthesia can be used for more sensitive areas.
