Thank You, Mom

May 1, 2019 BY BELLADERM MEDSPA
Thank you, Mom

Mother’s Day is an occasion to thank the women we call Mom. It’s a time to celebrate the gift of motherhood and appreciate the depth of a maternal bond for young or old, mother or child, grandmother and grandchild alike. We’ve asked the ladies at Belladerm to tell us what “Mom” means to them and how their families plan to celebrate this special holiday. Here are their responses:

Robin, Managing Director, Mother

What does the title “Mom” mean to you? Everything. It all begins and ends with that word.

What’s been the most rewarding part of motherhood?  Every stage has been my favorite, but nothing compares to watching your child fall in love with their children.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year?  With my three children, either in-person or on FaceTime.

What are you looking forward to?  More grandchildren and my son’s wedding.

Cyndie Brown, Aesthetician, Mother

What does the title “Mom” mean to you? Being a guide for my two kids through life. A mentor, confidante, partner, and protector.

What’s been the most rewarding part of motherhood? The best part of motherhood is watching my kids grow into respectful people.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year? We will be planting flowers on Mother’s Day.

What are you looking forward to? Now that my kids are older, I really look forward to some fun adventures touring national parks.

Daryl Jackson, Spa Coordinator, Mother

What does the title “Mom” mean to you? It means everything to me since a doctor told me I wouldn’t be able to have any children. One month later, I was pregnant.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year?  Watching my three grandchildren while their parents go to Hawaii for their 10-year anniversary.

What’s been the most rewarding part of motherhood?  Watching my son be a great father.

Sarah Ghizoni, Nurse Injector, Mother

What does the title “Mom” mean to you? To me, “Mom” is my favorite title. I always knew I wanted to be a mom, and I feel so fortunate to have two happy and healthy children.

What’s been the most rewarding part of motherhood? Watching my kids develop a relationship with each other.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year? I will be celebrating Mother’s Day watching my daughter play AAU basketball.

What are you looking forward to?  I am looking forward to summer. My husband and I love being outdoors and spending time at the beach with our kids.

Madison K., Guest Service Representative, Daughter

What does the title “Mom” mean to you? Someone who loves and supports you no matter what.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year? Buying my mom a Pandora charm to add to her collection.

What are you looking forward to?  Being a mother one day.

At Belladerm MedSpa, we believe a mother’s unconditional love is worth celebrating. We provide a variety of skin care and body rejuvenation services you can give her to say, “Thank you, Mom.” We’re offering an exclusive Mother’s Day special: buy $150 gift card, get a $25 gift card free, effective May 2 through May 11. How to Cope with Holiday Stress and Embrace the Season

December 16, 2014 BY BELLADERM MEDSPA

Crunch time is here! With December 25th quickly approaching, the final countdown is on and tensions are rising. Yes, some of you are sitting there smugly thinking about how you’re almost completely done with all of your Christmas shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, etc. BUT for most of us, we are juggling a list in our heads and are scrambling to figure out what in the world to get the kids’ teacher this year and wondering how we will possibly have enough time to get it all done. Breathe. Step back and look at the big picture. This is all supposed to be fun. A season of celebration and joy. We get so caught up in the prep that we miss it sometimes. We rounded up some great tips on managing the holiday stress so you can really embrace the awesome season we’re in and your loved ones, too.

Make a budget and stick to it. Money is one of the major stressors during the holidays. Don’t dig yourself into a hole by overspending. A thoughtful gift doesn’t have to be expensive. If money is tight, suggest a family gift exchange with a spending limit.

Create new traditions. Stressed out by the usual festivities? Try something different. Instead of cooking a huge meal on your own, make it a potluck. Ask adults to bring gag gifts or have a “white elephant” or used book gift exchange. Attend a local holiday concert, walk the neighborhood to look at holiday lights, or go sledding.

Beware of unhealthy stress relievers. Holiday stress causes some people to fall into bad habits such as smoking, drinking, or eating too much. Think about any unhealthy habits you’re prone to and better ways to handle stress.

Make time for your health. In the holiday rush, don’t let your well-being fall by the wayside. Try to stay on your normal sleep schedule and get regular exercise. If you can’t find a 30-minute chunk of time for exercise, break it up into three 10-minute sessions spread through the day.

Accept reality. Don’t expect perfect decorations, a perfect meal, or perfect people. Try to go with the flow and enjoy what you have. Pinterest can make us all feel less-than-good-enough but don’t let it!

Spread love & joy. Focus on what the season is all about, like doing good deeds for others. Be careful to not overload your schedule so that you are spread too thin to do some of these. Brainstorm about how you can brighten someone’s day and it will make you feel good in the process!

Happy Holidays from all of us here at Belladerm Medspa! We look forward to seeing you soon!

What every Minnesotan needs to know about skin cancer and the damaging effects of the sun

April 27, 2014 BY BELLADERM MEDSPA
We mentioned in our April Newsletter that May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. While we have many products and services that treat skin that has already seen sun damage, we are also passionate about educating you about skin cancer prevention and ways to protect your skin before the damage occurs. The sun can give your skin a warm glow, but the new color you see IS a sign of skin damage. Trust us, we see the not-so-pretty effects of sun exposure every day! That’s why this blog is dedicated to what every Minnesotan needs to know about skin cancer and the damaging effects of the sun.
EVEN HERE WITH OUR NEVERENDING WINTERS?
With spring weather finally arriving, everyone is anxious to get outdoors to exercise, do yard work or play with the kids.  Since we live in a colder climate, many Minnesotans don’t  worry quite as much about sun protection. After all, they are cooped up inside and out of the rays of the sun for so many winter months and they need more vitamin D. While the sun is a great source of vitamin D, a recent study showed that people who use sunscreen still experience a spike in vitamin D levels after sitting in the sun so keep that in mind! Boost your levels with D-filled foods such as salmon, egg yolks, and mushrooms, too.
NO MORE EXCUSES! GET THAT ANNUAL SKIN CHECK DONE!
Melanoma Monday is May 5th
We know, life gets busy and there isn’t anything on your skin that is particularly concerning at the moment, so that dermatologist appointment can wait, right? Wrong. This really IS something you need to do. Tell your friends and family, too. Visit this page to find a clinic near you to visit. You’ll also find helpful tools and resources there. Skin checks are quick and easy and you’ll feel better knowing someone is keeping an eye on possible skin changes. You’ve heard it before – early detection is key! Below is an example of what a changing mole might look like. Suspicious moles are often ones that are not even in color. Other reasons to be suspicious are: asymmetry, uneven borders, changes like growth in size of mole or itchy/bleeding moles or a mole that just looks different than the rest of your moles.
SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT MELANOMA
    • On average, one American dies from melanoma every hour. In 2014, it is estimated that 9,710 deaths will be attributed to melanoma.
    • Melanoma is the most common cancer for young adults 25 to 29 years old and the second most common form of cancer for adolescents and young adults 15-29 years old.
    • When caught early, skin cancer – including melanoma – is highly treatable. The five-year survival rate for people whose melanoma is detected and treated before it spreads to the lymph nodes is 98 percent.
    • Just shy of 77,000 new cases of melanoma were diagnosed last year across the nation.
  • More men than women were diagnosed with skin cancer and more men died from skin cancer last year.
