Help Spread Awareness for the Prevention of Skin Cancer

Belladerm • May 30, 2018

The sun feels so good on our skin after a marathon winter but remember to use precaution when you are exposed as its warmth can be deceiving.
With over 5 million cases of diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Furthermore, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Did you know that nearly 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers and 85 percent of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun?  By raising awareness of the dangers of unprotected exposure and encouraging sun-safe habits, we can change behaviors and save lives. If you have a personal story or know someone who does, please share and help spread awareness for the prevention of skin cancer.
Incidences of skin cancer are reaching epidemic levels, it is time to spread awareness of the disease and take preventive measures. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and the perfect time to get involved.
Here are some ways you can help spread the word this summer:
Share Your Story
Have you been affected by skin cancer? During the month of May and June share your story on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and encourage your loved ones to do the same.  Visuals can be very powerful. Please include the hashtag #MySkinCancerJourney in your post so we can follow along and create a powerful community of healthy skin champions.
Raise Awareness Through Education
Share educational content with your family, friends and colleagues. Center conversations around the important message that it’s never too early or too late to embrace a sun-safe lifestyle. Sun damage is cumulative, meaning people of all ages need a daily sun protection strategy. The skincancer.org prevention guidelines and early detection articles and blogs are great resources to share.
