Do's and Don'ts of Summer Skincare

Belladerm • July 8, 2016

Summer is the time for relaxation and fun. It’s the season to release the outdoors enthusiasts within. Most of us welcome the change in routine the summer brings, but with a new regime, your skincare routine should change too. Here are the Do’s and Don’ts of Summer Skincare:
Do’s:
1) Always wear sunblock of SPF 30 or higher. Apply every 30-45 minutes and wear protective clothing to block the sun especially from your face and chest.
2) Use less products. No need to overdo it with products. Refrain from using anything with retinol and choose a tinted moisturizer rather than a heavy foundation. We recommend Revisions. Opt for lighter cosmetics and skin care products that won’t sit heavy on your face. Try a loose mineral powder instead of thicker pressed variety.
3) Drink lots of water. Drinking 64 oz or more will help flush toxins out of your system and replenish your body’s water supply for well-hydrated, healthy skin. It will help give your skin a summer-like glow and can plump up your cheeks a bit to give you a more youthful appearance.
4) Do get Botox and fillers- Summer is perfect time to get fillers. There are no sun restrictions. Fillers and Botox, when administered by a RN or another certified professional will take years off your face and  give you a much more youthful appearance. Now is perfect time to schedule these procedures.
Don’ts:
1) Do not spend time in the sun for at least 72 hours before your laser treatment. If this is not possible, then you simply should not have any laser treatments. We advise this because your skin becomes at risk of serious burning, damage, or scarring. Without you even realizing it, your skin will have become more sensitive to burning after being exposed to the sun.
2) Do not get a chemical peel during the summer months. Even if you do not plan to bask in the sun, you must be extra careful as the strong ultraviolet rays have a way of finding you when you least expect it. Yes- you are getting sun exposure through your car windows. Get a Hydrafacial instead. There is no risk with the sun or downtime.
3) Don’t over-cleanse your face. It might be tempting to wash your face repeatedly when it feels oily. If your skin becomes too dry, however, it could stimulate increased oil production.
So when it comes to the do’s and don’ts of summer skincare keep a list and check it twice to ensure you protect your skin and  look radiant for the summer season!
